5 Questions with Mayor Kelly Linton

We are thrilled to have had Mayor Kelly Linton participate in our 5 Questions Project. Kelly is a long time resident of our community and the current Mayor of Centre Wellington. He has some great things to share about why he loves this community so much.

Please enjoy reading his answers below!

Can you tell us about yourself?

I grew up in Fergus for the first half of my life and Elora for the second. I have two kids, my daughter is 19 and my son 17. We currently live in Salem. I operated a business consulting firm, I’ve worked with municipal governments for the last 20 years across Canada. It’s called Imaginate, where we work on business process redesign, organizational designs, performance measures, and we work a lot to help municipalities improve. To take care of my own responsibilities as Mayor, I’ve had to put that on hold for now. It’s a really exciting experience working within my hometown and it’s my goal to make Centre Wellington the best place to live and work.

What do you enjoy most about living and working in Centre Wellington?

I love living here! After being here for a while and living in Mississauga for a while, working in downtown Toronto, I felt like I couldn’t do the work that I wanted to in a place like Centre Wellington. After coming to the realization that I very much could do the work here, I moved back. One of the things I remember most was going for a run back in my hometown and looking around at the place that I call home. It was a good feeling. Everything about Centre Wellington is the envy of other municipalities and we have it here and leverage it to make sure that Centre Wellington remains the best place to be.

What makes this community unique?

One of the things that comes to mind is the fact that we have two distinct downtowns that have their own unique DNA, their own unique vibe. We are extremely fortunate to have this. The character of our downtown is so unique. Often times when you visit a new area you remember the feeling that the downtown area gives you. We have such potential. To top that off, our natural environment is truly breathtaking. People come from all over the world to experience our backyard. To think that people come from all over the world to see this and we live here is just incredible!

Can you share some of your favourite things to do in Centre Wellington?

Playing sports, being outside, love spending time in the arena, being on the trail and biking to Belwood Lake. Being a tourist in my hometown and visiting cafe’s, eateries, and more. Getting to wear a kilt (that’s always fun) at the Scottish Festival and visiting many of our other fun festivals that we run on a yearly basis.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of moving to Centre Wellington?

That’s a really good question. That’s a question that I often ask people in and around the community. Often times people talk about the quality of life and the amenities that we are so fortunate to have. I would say the closeness of our community is a good reason alone to live in this community. Get involved where you can. You will not regret it!
