Centre Wellington is a vibrant community in the heart of Wellington County. Located minutes north of Guelph, you will find the charming hamlets and villages of Aboyne, Alma, Belwood, Ponsonby and Salem as well as the historical towns of Fergus and Elora. Centre Wellington has experienced increased growth in recent years as it offers a great location, small-town friendliness, attractive and unique housing options and many of the modern conveniences offered by larger urban centres.
 

Culture & Heritage

Conservation of cultural heritage is an integral part of the Township’s commitment to providing a unique, livable and prosperous community for its residents both now and in the future. Centre Wellington is home to many heritage homes and buildings which have been preserved from the community’s early beginnings. Many of these beautiful limestone buildings are located in the downtown cores and are home to local businesses, unique shops, artisan studios, café’s & restaurants.

Centre Wellington’s arts and culture are well-known both locally and globally. Each year, the Fergus Scottish Festival & Highland games draws thousands of visitors to a 3-day celebration of its local Scottish roots. Riverfest, a music festival in Elora showcases many big-name musicians and has become an anticipated event each summer. The area is also home to many talented artists, who share their work with visitors by offering studio tours and classes for those who want to try their hand at many creative techniques.

The Bigger Picture

Known for its natural beauty, Centre Wellington offers many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. The Elora Gorge is one of the most picturesque areas in Southern Ontario offering stunning views of limestone cliffs which overlook the Irvine and Grand rivers. Belwood Lake provides residents the opportunity to enjoy many activities year-round such as fishing, water skiing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. The Township also offers 47 kilometers of scenic walking trails, such as the Cataract Trailway which weaves its way through the community enabling stunning views of parks, farmland and the rivers that connect them.

Centre Wellington offers residents the ability to walk or bike to many local amenities. Access larger cities such as Guelph in less than 20 minutes, Kitchener-Waterloo in 25 - 30 minutes and Toronto in under 2 hours.

Centre Wellington is part of both the Upper Grand District School Board and the Wellington Catholic School Board. James McQueen and J.D. Hogarth offer French Immersion education in the community. There are also private school options such as the Montessori School of Elora and the Maranatha Christian School in Fergus.

Sports & Recreation

Minor sports, as well as many adult leagues, both recreational and competitive are offered for sports such as hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, and tennis, making Centre Wellington a great area for families that put sports and recreation in high priority. The Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex is a modern facility which features two arenas, a swimming pool, gymnasium and workout facility offering programming to residents of all ages.

 

Community Care & Housing

Centre Wellington is home to Groves Memorial Community Hospital. It provides excellent health care in the community and will be rebuilt and open at its new location in Aboyne in 2019. The Upper Grand Family Health Team, comprised of a team of 27 family physicians at 8 locations throughout the area provide their patients with access to quality primary health care.

The housing market in Centre Wellington offers something for everyone, from century homes on tree lined streets, single family homes, townhouses in newer subdivisions, various condominiums and apartments as well as country properties in a rural setting.
